Avoid Costly Mistakes for Installing Cabinet Hardware Jig
By LEVOITE SUPPORT on Feb 02, 2022
AVOID COSTLY MISTAKES - Cabinets are an investment that need to be protected. This is why we use only the highest quality materials and proprietary machining, then hand calibrate every jig so that your knobs or pulls are placed exactly where you want them. While counterfeit jigs may look the same, they cannot mimic our extreme accuracy.
Cheap Tools = Expensive Mistakes
With hardware jigs, there is no replacement for extreme accuracy. Any error built into an inferior tool will result in noticeably out of place hardware, and errors will be doubled when drilling doors. In addition, the longer the handle is, the worse the error becomes. These examples are known as the exponential distortion effect and are the reason that a cabinet hardware jig requires such unique, extreme precision. Whether it's the products inherent out of tolerance build or the lack of strength needed while drilling through the template, there are expensive consequences of 2nd rate tools.
As a recently new homeowner, I have become quite the DIY'er and my tool box is filling up with various "use only one time" tools, but as a perfectionist, I always try to get the right tools for the right job. To be honest, I didn't even bother with all the other plastic options I found for this task and I certainly wasn't going to try and line up the cabinet holes with a tape measure and a steady eye.
Up high on my list of good purchases. I made the mistake of ordering the cheap plastic version first before I came to my senses and remembered that I almost always regret going cheap. One bad hole is enough of a headache. This is a high quality tool that works very well. You can really fly once you are confident in your settings.
It is a great tool. Very easy to use.
1) Use blue painters tape, so the jig will not scratch the surface.
2) Clamp the jig before drilling.
3) I was drilling holes in hard maple, so I backed the doors with a piece of plywood.
If you don't, the lame drill bit that comes with the jig will rip pieces of wood from the back.
I found it easy way, I always drill on a scrap wood first to make sure that everything is measured correctly.
